Personally i`d say that (in musical instrument terms) everything before 1980 is vintage.
We see `60s kits` or `70s kits` for sale but from then on most were electronic or computorised and i wouldn`t class them as vintage. Older or younger players may disagree but it`s an interesting post.

I define vintage as like pre 80's. I don't know if there actually is a correct way to define it, but i think its pretty much personal opinion.

I define vintage as antique, which is 20 years old or more.

^ same here, I believe 20 years old makes a car an antique as well!

Pre 80's kit. Kits like my MLX are from the late 80's, but i don't concider them vintage, they are just not new. True vintage kits just had a certain vintage atmosphere. They look a little more "raw", the bearing edges are often significantly different style then todays, and the hardware is often alot thinner. Yes, thinner. To me, that sums up alot of what is a vintage kit.

Does anyone know the exact definition of vintage as it refers to drums? I bet Carl Peterson knows...

I don't think there is an exact definition, it's up to each person to determine

Usually an instrument isn't considered "vintage" until it's at least 20, but more like 25+ years old.
For drums, most anything pre 1980 will be 'vintage' in most cases. That was a changing time for drums. Shells were starting to be made more like todays shells (like the Rogers XP-8 using an 8-py all-maple Keller shell), hardware got better (Memriloc), & drum sizes started expanding into deeper shells instead of the standard 12x8, 22x14, etc...

I would also like to know, what exactly it is. My gear is 20+ years mostly, so its hard to decide.

For cars it's 25 years and older.
