Aquarian American Vintage™ Series: A coated, single ply drumhead available in either a medium weight or thin weight. The American Vintage™ series has a slightly larger hoop diameter to allow for an easy fit on most vintage drumshells. This drumhead features a special coating that has the look, feel and warm sound of a calfskin head.

Your shell is 50's 60's correct? Could be your shell is slightly out of round.

I was thinking it could be out of round also, but try taking it in to a drum shop and try putting different heads on there, untill you find one that fits.

Try the American Vintage Heads from Aquarian. They are retro fitted for drums up to the 50's. They also have Modern Vintage heads for the 60's and up. I hope this helps you out. Check out their website www.aquariandrumheads.com then go under "products" and then "vintage series" under "tom tom/snare heads"

This can be an issue on various brands (except on early UK kits which are actually undersized and require a special smaller sized head). Aquarian AVs are designed specifically for this reason so are the sure-fire solution.
One of my kits is mildly oversized and I found that the standard sized heads from Aquarian were actually the worst fit of all brands as they use a thicker collar. Remo heads can just about squeeze on but it is not ideal and the AVs are the way forward...

What you need to do is put the shell on a totally flat, smooth surface, then shine a light down into it..If light shines through the bottom, it's warped..

Remos typically fit older drums. The Aquarian Am. Vint are also good for older shells, too.

ALso some companies make a 14 plus size that is a little bigger than a 14.
