I can't believe we got two new PDF sections in one day. This ratio is quite amazing. :D BTW, what are we saying is the definition of "vintage"? How old does an item have to be?

hotrodder
10-13-2005, 04:22 PM
In the car world here over 25 years goes in the vintage and veteran sections of the classifieds ..

Maybe Carl or one of the vintage kit guru's has an opinion on this ...

bonzonerd
10-13-2005, 09:12 PM
I would say from 1950-1980, maybe earlier, but no later then 1980. At least not what I'm into.

I absolutly love this section! In the radio world, anything 10 years or older is considered a classic, and auto's is 20 years.

what years were pearl drums made in the USA during the 1980

But Vintage?

Vintage is usually considered 25 years, but I don’t think there is really any hard and set rules. I‘m sure most here would enjoy seeing any thing that's no more that just “out of production”.

Antique = 100 years, but lots of people will accept 50+ years.

Well “Uncle Way2manydrums” that’s an interesting way to parse your words...

But I’m in the same boat, in fact I’m only 4 years away from being considered antique by some 00**

I have an extender 5 piece kit I purchased new in '85. I'd like as much info as possible like what years they were made, etc... The finish is damaged and I would like to restore it to original (brown flash). Any hope?

My first Pearl drum set was a three piece black pearl I bought for $149 in 1964. Anybody seen/have one of those?

Welcome to the forum!

That would be a pretty early one, before the “professional” line of drums circa 1966

Check out Pearls official history page...

No doubt the shells were luan and the badges were oval flat metal with the vent holes in the big red P.

I really don't remember what the shape of the badges were. I was just a poor GI and the owner of the shop took pity on me. Let me rent to buy the set. After I paid it off, he threw in the cymbals (hi-hats, a crash/ride & stands). Cymbals and stands were used. Snare was hard to tune, but the tom and bass sounded pretty good (for a rookie!). Lots of fun...and made some extra bucks.

I have a set of Pearl Prestige Session Select drums. I have asked quite a few drum techs. and have searched the Pearl website, but have had no luck getting info on them. I would like to know when built, construction and anything else pertinent. Thanks.

Looking for information on my set as far as value. 7 Piece set (2 Bass, 2 Tom tom, 2 floor toms, 1 snare) and 4 symbols

Tried to upload pics but couldn't get it to work. New to this. Anyone's help would be appreciated.

Thanks for any help I can get.

One of my first professional kits was a 1977 Pearl Fiberglass concert tom series kit. I used it from 1977 to 1984.

I have as my primary kit, an 8pce. 1985 Pearl Superpro GLX series in black.
They are the best sounding kit I have ever had, and always get compliments on their sound. Quick release lugs work like a charm.

Hi Woodman36,
I see you are new to the forum so welcome!
I suggest you start a "new thread" with pictures of your kit so we can have a look...
Also put in the thread what parts you are looking for.

There were a number of series/models released in 1969.

Cheers

I say 25 years or older. Some say 20. So 1984 or before. IMO.

Will have these home tomorrow with a photo thread before they go into restoration mode..

http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff68/X7drums/Drumkits/MXPearl001.jpg

Does anyone know for sure or is there a way to find out what the factory edges were cut at on these shells? I have heard double 45s...?
I have done a quick inspection of the shell's integrity before I handed over the cash..they seem in round and have decent edges.
I plan to work to restore this kit to its original condition and any information I can glean from this thread will be helpful. When did Pearl start spec'ing Super Hoops on the MX? does any one out there own one of these kits 83 model?

The drum sizes are;

14x24" (virgin) kick
10x14" rack tom/BT-1
12x15" tom (probably won't use)
16x16" floor tom
