the Yammy lugs reduce head changing by half wich is handy but it is a destinct look only few could like!

I love Yamaha's. But I'd get the ELX if I were you. They are just overall better drums.

I think that the elx is a great idea. The plastic lugs on the Yamahas don't seem like a good idea. As far as colour; black burst.

elx!!!
the are so much better!
yamaha lugs may seem like a good idea, but i dont think they hold up very well, thats not a good price to pay for being able to change heas a little faster.
Colors!!!-- elx colors are so amazing! any of them beat yammies into the underworld.
price.-- i looked into pricing and yamahas are more expensive than elx, elx is much better price, and value.
Yess vs iss.-- iss mounts are much better, more resonant, and sturdier, they dont drill into the shell like yess
hardware.-- yamaha hardware is dinky and is no match fo pearl's awesome sturdy hardware.
Support-- yamaha makes so many other products besides drums, and besides musical intruments. I find it hard to believe that they could be fully devoted to their drums when they have4 other things to manage. pearls cutomer support is awesome and they put their hart and soul into their drums.
i hope this convinced you to buy elx's, if you do, the cheapest prices are @ massmusic.net, only 750!!

ELX sound better. I have played on plenty of stage customs and Exports and I stand by the export series as the better deal.

The head change thing isn't really a worthy thing. I've neverh had to change a head in 30 seconds so I don't need em. I love blue mist like it was my brother anyway!

The first post focusing on the most important aspect... I own an Export set and have played some others, and played two Stage Custom sets. Exports sound definitely better, and their hardware quality is higher. Also, new Exports look absolutely better than Yamaha's.

Yeah! go elx, hmmmm now your toughest decision.....
WHAT COLOUR??
personally i'd say ruby fade cos it is wow but also black burst is nice, and come to think of it, blue mist, and amber fade... and the others. They are all good. Good luck choosing........

You did the right thing - bang for buck, it's really tough to beat an Export kit.

my church just got a stage custom advantage noveau (sp?) (and i own a blue mist elx).. i didn't have a say in the church purchase.. we got it cheap cos one of the guys in the church owns a yamaha piano shop here so we 'cut out the middle man' i guess...
The biggest difference is the plastic lugs. The idea is good.. faster head changes.. but i somehow think if it was this easy pearl or someone else would have done this long ago.
I think the metal lugs will last longer.. if you were getting the kit to gig on for one year and trash and change heads extremely often maybe the plastic lugs are for you.. but it only comes with one spare and i wouldn't be surprised if they stopped making these lugs in a year or 2..the export lugs just seem a much safer option.
As for sound.. i like the sound of my elx kit better, but it has better heads and has had more time on tuning. The yamaha claims to be birch.. but it is 1 ply birch (probably low quality birch), 6 plies phillipine mahoggany (which is probably lower quality than the poplar on the exports) and 1 ply something else. The exports will sound just as good.. they are not bad sounding at all!!
Exports look better too.
If you have any regrets about choosing the exports you won't have been happy with any of the choices.

so the sc's are 1 ply birch 6 ply phillipene mahogany, and 1 ply something else again? That's 8 ply. Are you sure? I always thought that Stage's were 6 plys of Fatalka and Phillipene Mahogany.

Correction. I was wrong, they are 8 Ply. Here's the Deal. Straight From Yamaha.com
Mahogany/Falkata Shells with Birch or Oak Outer ply
Stage Custom Advantage Nouveau shells are constructed of an outer ply of Birch (gloss finishes) or Oak (matte finishes), six plies of Philippine Mahogany, and an inner ply of Falkata. The shells produce a warm tone with a low fundamental with a good balance of attack and sustain.
