What advice do you guys have about starting to gig and gigging in general? Such things like venue selection, setting up, what to bring, how to get the most out of your gig, etc. Any advice is helpful-go hog wild.

My band started a year and a half ago and our first gig was our high school talent show. now we have a summer tour lined up thruogh the east coast. if your asking how to literally get gigs, make a demo. My band blew a couple hundred bucks on a 4 song demo and it was our best investment yet. Now what we did was look for a battle of the bands done by a radio station, most stations do them you just have to look. If you have a pro looking demo, your almost definitely in. if you put on a good show, the doors will probably blow wide open. From that day one we do at least 2 shows a month and it's wicked sweet. I hope my babbling wasn't to much and helped out some.:D
Setting up large drumkits is a royal *****. Period.

Also, if you want to get more gigs, just get to know some of the bands that are simmilar to your bands style and are in the scene. The demo also works really well.
Other than that, if you want do's and don'ts of gigging, there's actually a long thread about it in the Gig section.

always always always bring enuff cymbal stands for the cymbals you use. theres nothin worse than havin to improvise because of a lack of cymbals. also, always take a drum key, u never know what can go wrong. keep everything together, u dont want to lose anything, believe me, it costs a lot to replace the stuff you lose.

Bring only what you need as far as major parts go, bring along some extra felts, drum keys and other small stuff like that. Bring plenty of sticks, bring some water if its not being supplied. Try and set some of your stuff up a few minutes before you set up on stage (put cymbals on stands, etc.). Dont drink or do any drugs, warm up with some rudiments on a practice pad but dont over do it. Most importantly HAVE FUN!!! there is nothing in the world like playing live, enjoy every moment on stage. hope this helps!
